DMK working president M.K. Stalin strongly criticized the Tamil Nadu government on March 20, 2018, for granting entry and full police protection to the communally sensitive Ram Rajya Ratha Yatra. Stalin remarked that while the administration imposed Section 144 prohibitory orders to curb democratic civil society protests, it deployed extensive state security to facilitate a divisive religious procession. He asserted that this blatant contradiction demonstrated that Tamil Nadu was effectively governed according to BJP directives rather than autonomous state interests.

Stalin had previously cautioned the authorities that allowing the yatra into Tamil Nadu threatened the longstanding communal harmony, social peace, and secular fabric cultivated across decades. He highlighted that state resources were being misused to shield politically motivated religious mobilizations while suppressing the constitutional rights of local citizens and peaceful opposition demonstrators.

The DMK leader declared that Tamil society has historically rejected religious polarization in favor of social justice and rationalist amity. He demanded that the administration uphold secular governance and cease surrendering regional peace to external ideological agendas.
