DMK working president and Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin led a determined protest on March 20, 2018, resulting in the eviction of DMK legislators from the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly and their subsequent detention during a road blockade in Chennai. Stalin raised sharp questions inside the assembly, condemning the ruling AIADMK administration for subservience to the BJP-led central government at the expense of Tamil Nadu's vital welfare interests.
Rather than addressing these pressing democratic grievances, the Speaker ordered the forcible removal of DMK members through assembly marshals. Refusing to let public concerns be silenced by executive intimidation, Stalin and fellow legislators immediately staged a road roko outside the state legislature. Police personnel swiftly arrested Stalin and the protesting MLAs, transporting them into temporary custody.
Stalin affirmed that high-handed police action would never dampen the DMK's resolve to hold the ruling dispensation accountable. He declared that elected representatives possess an unshakeable duty to advocate for citizen welfare against governmental neglect. Stalin reiterated that the DMK will take the struggle directly to the public square until justice, transparency, and administrative accountability are restored.
