DMK working president M.K. Stalin demanded on March 22, 2018, that the Tamil Nadu government file an immediate contempt of court case in the Supreme Court against the central government if it failed to constitute the Cauvery Management Board within the prescribed six-week timeline. Stalin stated that the central government had shown absolute callousness toward the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu, consistently betraying the legitimate interests of delta farmers.
Stalin stressed that the Supreme Court's verdict had explicitly directed the Union administration to formulate an autonomous scheme within six weeks to ensure fair river water distribution. He pointed out that if the Centre defaulted on this binding judicial obligation, the state administration had a legal duty to seek judicial enforcement through contempt proceedings.
The DMK leader warned the state government against remaining passive while the central government deliberately delayed action.
