DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued a severe condemnation on March 23, 2018, against the appointment of Thamma Suryanarayana Sastry, an alleged disciple of Hindutva ideology, as the Vice-Chancellor of the Dr. Ambedkar Law University in Chennai. Stalin emphasized that installing an ideologically polarized administrator at a premier university established in honor of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was an affront to the principles of secularism and constitutional justice.

Stalin recalled that Dr. Ambedkar was a resolute champion of secular philosophy, equality, social justice, and the complete eradication of caste prejudice, dedicating his life to creating an inclusive constitutional republic. He asserted that appointing someone with documented allegiance to sectarian right-wing doctrines to head an institution named after Ambedkar was an act of deliberate ideological provocation.

The DMK leader demanded an immediate revocation of the controversial gubernatorial appointment. Stalin warned that attempting to infiltrate educational campuses with sectarian ideologies would damage academic freedom and student welfare. He pledged that the DMK would continue to fiercely defend the secular vision of Dr. Ambedkar and resist all covert attempts to communalize Tamil Nadu's educational institutions.
