DMK working president M.K. Stalin sharply criticized Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit on March 23, 2018, for appointing a university Vice-Chancellor who had not been recommended by the statutory search committee. Stalin pointed out that the appointed candidate had previously faced formal disciplinary proceedings during the DMK administration, making his selection an unhealthy, improper, and unlawful violation of university statutes and administrative decorum.
Stalin emphasized that Tamil Nadu was richly endowed with highly accomplished academicians, distinguished researchers, scientists, and eminent professors fully capable of heading prestigious higher education institutions. He insisted that needlessly importing administrators from colleges outside the state deeply insulted local scholarship and systematically eroded the autonomy of state universities.
The DMK leader called upon the Governor to adhere strictly to statutory search committee recommendations and respect established legal conventions. Stalin declared that universities must not be reduced to platforms for ideological patronage or external administrative imposition. He reaffirmed that the DMK would firmly oppose any appointments that deliberately bypassed established statutory rules, undermined institutional dignity, or demoralized the dedicated scholarly community and student population of Tamil Nadu.
