DMK working president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the central government on March 25, 2018, for attempting to set up a toothless supervisory committee instead of the statutory Cauvery Management Board. Stalin termed this maneuver a blatant negative action designed to usurp Tamil Nadu's legitimate river water entitlements in total disregard of both the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal and the definitive rulings of the Supreme Court.

Stalin pointed out that replacing an autonomous management board equipped with regulatory control over regional reservoirs with an advisory supervisory body was a deceptive ploy to placate upper riparian interests. He emphasized that Tamil Nadu's agricultural lifeline could not be left to administrative discretion that had repeatedly failed to deliver seasonal water releases during critical irrigation phases.

The DMK leader asserted that the people of Tamil Nadu would unequivocally reject any cosmetic substitute that compromised their constitutional water rights. Stalin urged the Union administration to abandon political prevarication and constitute the full-fledged Cauvery board as legally directed. He reaffirmed that the DMK would organize fierce democratic resistance across the state to thwart attempts to dilute judicial mandates.
