DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued a stern warning on March 25, 2018, stating that if the central government failed to establish the Cauvery Management Board within the deadline mandated by the Supreme Court, the DMK would launch a massive statewide jail-filling agitation. Addressing an immense gathering, Stalin asserted that the party would mobilize farmers, agricultural laborers, youth, and citizens from every corner of Tamil Nadu to court arrest peacefully in defense of their river rights.
Stalin further announced that if the Union government continued its stubborn evasion even after the jail-filling campaign, the DMK-led alliance would take the battle directly to the national capital, staging demonstrations in New Delhi to awaken central authorities to Tamil Nadu's collective distress. He emphasized that the state could no longer tolerate political maneuvering that threatened agricultural survival.
The DMK leader pointed out that the Cauvery issue was an existential question for the agrarian delta economy. Stalin affirmed his complete readiness to lead the frontline protests, declaring that the DMK would pursue every constitutional and democratic method until the statutory Cauvery board was officially notified.
