DMK working president M.K. Stalin met Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit at Raj Bhavan on March 27, 2018, accepting an official invitation following his earlier written objection regarding the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor of the Dr. Ambedkar Law University in Chennai. During the official meeting, Stalin directly conveyed his serious reservations regarding the appointment of an administrator linked with right-wing ideological affiliations to an institution named after Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
Stalin explained that Dr. Ambedkar was the chief architect of the Constitution of India and a lifelong champion of secularism, social justice, and equality. He stressed that appointing an individual whose ideological background contradicted these core values insulted Dr. Ambedkar's enduring memory and alienated the student body and faculty of the premier legal institution.
The DMK leader urged the Governor to uphold secular principles and statutory appointment norms in state universities. Stalin emphasized that higher academic institutions must remain free from ideological bias and external interference. He affirmed that the DMK would remain vigilant in safeguarding social justice ideals and constitutional propriety across all of Tamil Nadu's premier educational institutions.
