DMK working president M.K. Stalin sharply criticized the AIADMK state government on March 31, 2018, for its subservient posture regarding the Cauvery dispute in the Supreme Court. Stalin pointed out that while the central BJP government had filed a petition at 11:00 AM seeking a three-month extension to avoid forming the Cauvery Management Board, the Tamil Nadu government waited until 11:15 AM to submit its contempt petition.
Stalin questioned why the state administration continued to act as a meek follower of New Delhi, reacting only after the Centre had made its dilatory move rather than proactively initiating immediate contempt proceedings when the six-week deadline expired. He asserted that such synchronized maneuvering exposed the state regime's complete lack of genuine commitment to Tamil Nadu's agricultural interests.
The DMK leader condemned the state government for bowing before central masters at the direct expense of delta farmers. Stalin demanded that the ruling dispensation display administrative courage and pursue aggressive legal measures in court. He reiterated that the DMK would continuously expose this duplicity and advocate unyielding defense of the state's legitimate water rights.
