DMK working president M.K. Stalin unveiled plans on April 1, 2018, for a massive, multi-district Cauvery Rights Retrieval March that would commence in the agricultural delta heartland and culminate at the Governor's official residence, Raj Bhavan, in Chennai. Stalin explained that the padayatra would unite leaders of all allied political parties, peasant organizations, trade unions, and civil society groups in a synchronized march for agricultural survival.
Stalin emphasized that the march would traverse hundreds of rural kilometers to directly connect with agrarian families whose livelihoods were threatened by New Delhi's inaction. He observed that walking alongside the rural populace would amplify grassroots voices and demonstrate the unbreakable solidarity of the Tamil people in defense of their river water rights.
The DMK leader stressed that the historic foot march would serve as a powerful democratic vehicle to demand the immediate constitution of the Cauvery Management Board. Stalin declared that the peaceful procession would deliver a clear message to constitutional authorities in Chennai and New Delhi, vowing that the DMK would sustain continuous public pressure until full river water justice and regional peace were achieved.
