I strongly condemn frequent price hike of petrol and Diesel that terribly affects the common man. I urge the govt to revert back the decision and bring petro products under GST to ease the burden of common people. #petrolpricehike
DMK working president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the recurring escalations in petrol and diesel prices on April 4, 2018, highlighting the severe economic distress inflicted upon working families, daily wage earners, and the middle class. Stalin urged the central government to immediately roll back the arbitrary price revisions and bring all petroleum products under the Goods and Services Tax, known as GST, to eliminate predatory excise levies.
Stalin pointed out that repeated fuel price hikes created cascading inflationary pressures throughout the economy, driving up transport costs, essential commodity rates, and basic household expenditures. He criticized the Union administration for generating excessive tax revenues at the direct expense of common citizens while offering negligible relief despite fluctuations in international crude oil prices.
The DMK leader emphasized that integrating fuels into the GST structure would introduce price transparency, eliminate cascading regional tariffs, and significantly reduce retail prices across all states. Stalin demanded that policymakers adopt immediate consumer-friendly fiscal measures to alleviate the mounting financial hardships faced by ordinary motorists and transport operators. He reaffirmed the DMK's commitment to holding the government accountable for regressive taxation policies.
