Stalin addressed a stern appeal to Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit on April 5, 2018, urging him to cease importing university vice-chancellors from other states to advance an ideological agenda. Stalin accused the chancellor's office of systematically undermining the dignity of Tamil Nadu's distinguished academicians, scientists, and scholars by overlooking qualified local talent to install external figures in premier institutions.
Stalin expressed serious concern over covert attempts to saffronize academic campuses across Tamil Nadu, warning that transforming state universities into ideological outposts would destroy academic independence and social harmony. He emphasized that Tamil Nadu possessed a vibrant intellectual legacy and world-class educators fully capable of leading prestigious universities toward administrative and scientific excellence.
The DMK leader cautioned that imposing individuals unfamiliar with Tamil culture, linguistic traditions, and social justice imperatives insulted the scholarly community of the state. Stalin demanded that all future vice-chancellor appointments adhere strictly to merit, transparency, and statutory search committee guidelines. He affirmed that the DMK would firmly resist any administrative maneuvers aimed at eroding the secular, progressive character of Tamil Nadu's higher education system.
