DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued a sharp condemnation on April 6, 2018, against the central government for expanding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, known as NEET, to admissions in traditional AYUSH healthcare programs. Stalin emphasized that after shattering the dreams of thousands of rural and economically underprivileged students seeking undergraduate MBBS seats, the Union administration was now aggressively targeting indigenous systems of medicine.
Stalin observed that students from rural Tamil medium schools suffered disproportionate disadvantages under rigid centralized testing regimes designed without regard for diverse state educational boards. He argued that extending NEET to Siddha, Ayurveda, and allied disciplines represented a direct assault on Tamil Nadu's social justice framework, which had historically empowered first-generation learners to enter professional healthcare sectors.
The DMK leader called upon democratic forces, educators, and political representatives to resist the ongoing centralization of educational governance. Stalin declared that medical and paramedical admissions should remain strictly under state jurisdiction. He affirmed that the DMK would persist with legal, legislative, and public struggles until discriminatory entrance examinations like NEET were permanently abolished across all medical branches.
