DMK working president M.K. Stalin announced on April 6, 2018, that he would lead a historic Cauvery Rights Retrieval March alongside leaders of allied political parties, commencing from Tiruchirappalli and culminating at Raj Bhavan in Chennai. Describing the march as the next decisive phase of the water rights agitation, Stalin declared the campaign's central objective: compelling the central government to constitute the statutory Cauvery Management Board without further evasion.
Stalin highlighted the inspiring slogan guiding the entire movement: "Walk, raise your voice, and retrieve our rights!" He explained that the extensive padayatra would pass through rural towns and delta heartlands, providing a direct platform for farmers, agricultural laborers, and the general public to register their strong collective protest against central injustice and state government subservience.
The DMK leader emphasized that the march represented an inclusive democratic initiative transcending party boundaries. Stalin expressed determination to carry the genuine aspirations of millions directly to the gates of the Governor's official residence, asserting that the DMK would spearhead the struggle until comprehensive water security and legal rights were permanently guaranteed for Tamil Nadu.
