DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued a spirited public call on April 7, 2018, urging all citizens of Tamil Nadu to join hands in the Cauvery Rights Retrieval March to protect the state's agricultural lifeline. Emphasizing that Cauvery was an inalienable birthright of the Tamil people, Stalin coined the resolute rallying slogan: "Walk, raise your voice, and retrieve our rights!" He asked people across political, social, and economic divides to unite in demanding the immediate formation of the Cauvery Management Board.

Stalin explained that decades of legal battles and administrative delays had reached a decisive juncture where widespread citizen participation and grassroots unity were indispensable. He pointed out that the agrarian future of the delta districts depended on creating an autonomous statutory board capable of enforcing regular water releases without external political manipulation.
