DMK working president M.K. Stalin concluded the inaugural leg of the Cauvery Rights Retrieval March on April 7, 2018, reaching the historic Grand Anicut, known as Kallanai, after beginning the day with a ceremonial flag hoisting at Mukkombu. Throughout the extensive walking route, vast crowds gathered to express solidarity with the collective demand for the prompt establishment of the Cauvery Management Board.
Reflecting on the tremendous public turnout, Stalin remarked that the widespread enthusiasm of farmers, traders, and youth infused vital strength into the statewide campaign. He noted that the historic site of Kallanai, built by Chola king Karikalan, symbolized centuries of delta water management that modern administrative neglect could not be permitted to dismantle.
Stalin emphasized that the overwhelming public response delivered an unequivocal message to both the central and state governments regarding Tamil Nadu's collective determination. He affirmed that the opposition alliance would march forward with renewed vigor and determination, carrying the legitimate voice of the hardworking farming community to the highest constitutional offices until comprehensive water justice was permanently achieved across every district of the Cauvery delta basin.
