DMK working president M.K. Stalin strongly criticized the ruling AIADMK government on April 8, 2018, for considering a boycott of the southern finance ministers conclave convened in Kerala. Stalin declared that skipping this vital non-partisan conference out of fear of the BJP-led central government or submissive loyalty to Delhi masters would constitute an unpardonable betrayal of Tamil Nadu. He emphasized that the conclave presented a crucial collective platform to resist discriminatory revenue sharing terms formulated by the 15th Finance Commission.
Stalin asserted that Tamil Nadu stood to lose massive financial allocations because the newly framed terms penalized progressive southern states that effectively controlled population growth. He pointed out that while neighbouring governments demonstrated administrative courage by uniting to protect state rights, the incumbent administration in Chennai risked compromising Tamil Nadu's long-term economic security through timid political calculations.
Stalin urged the state government to shed political hesitation and send senior ministerial representatives to Thiruvananthapuram without delay. He reiterated that protecting state autonomy and fiscal federalism must supersede partisan allegiances, affirming that the DMK would firmly defend Tamil Nadu's rightful constitutional share across every democratic forum.
