DMK working president M.K. Stalin held an extensive meeting with local farmers at Okkanadu Melaiyur in Thanjavur district on April 8, 2018, during the ongoing Cauvery Rights Retrieval Yatra. Cultivators from across the region gathered to present their pressing concerns regarding erratic irrigation supplies, mounting farm liabilities, and the existential threat posed to delta agriculture.

The farmers expressed deep frustration with both the central and state governments for failing to safeguard Tamil Nadu's legitimate share of river waters. Stalin assured the farming community that their struggle was at the heart of the DMK's political mission. He noted that the foot march was designed to give powerful voice to the grassroots distress of the rural population and build irresistible pressure on the Union government to constitute the Cauvery Management Board.

Stalin praised the unity and resilience displayed by the farming families of Okkanadu Melaiyur.
