DMK working president M.K. Stalin held an interactive gathering with farmers at Puthur village on April 9, 2018, as part of the Cauvery Rights Retrieval Yatra through the agricultural heartland. Cultivators from surrounding villages assembled in large numbers to share the severe difficulties caused by parched canals, recurring monsoon failures, and acute agricultural debt.
The farming community voiced deep frustration over the Union government's legal stalling tactics in the Supreme Court, which prevented the timely constitution of the Cauvery Management Board. Stalin conveyed his deep personal solidarity with the struggling farmers, praising their resolute spirit and commitment to the land. He emphasized that the DMK had undertaken the statewide foot march precisely to ensure that rural agricultural distress could not be conveniently ignored by policymakers in Chennai and New Delhi.
Stalin pledged that the DMK would continue to champion the cause of delta farmers until fair and guaranteed water distribution was established under independent statutory authority. He commended the villagers of Puthur for their participation, reiterating that the collective fight for riparian rights would continue undeterred until every farmer received their rightful share of river water.
