DMK working president M.K. Stalin issued an impassioned appeal on April 9, 2018, calling upon citizens across Tamil Nadu to join the ongoing Cauvery Rights Retrieval Yatra in massive numbers. Stalin lamented that the Cauvery, which historically originated as a modest stream at Talakaveri and flowed majestically as an expansive river sustaining Tamil civilization, had been tragically reduced to a parched, dry riverbed due to persistent interstate deprivation.
He asserted that collective action was urgently necessary to end this recurring tragedy and safeguard the state's agricultural lifeline. Stalin stated that joining hands in the foot march was a sacred civic duty to compel the central government to notify the Cauvery Management Board as mandated by the Supreme Court. He noted that the survival of delta agriculture directly determined the food security and economic stability of the entire state.
Stalin exhorted youth, women, farmers, and civil society organizations to unite across ideological lines in defense of Tamil Nadu's riparian entitlements. He reaffirmed that the DMK would continue marching tirelessly until statutory water management was realized for all farmers and lasting agricultural prosperity was restored across all regions.
