DMK working president M.K. Stalin expressed profound shock and indignation on April 9, 2018, over reports indicating that the Union government was planning to take direct administrative control of premier state institutions, including Chennai's prestigious Anna University. Stalin described the move as a deceptive and conspiratorial assault on Tamil Nadu's higher education legacy and federal rights.
He emphasized that institutions like Anna University were nurtured through state resources, local academic vision, and the contributions of generations of Tamil scholars and engineers. Allowing the central government to usurp administrative jurisdiction under the guise of national elevation or restructuring would strip the state legislature of its rightful control and jeopardize progressive reservation policies. Stalin criticized the AIADMK administration for maintaining a cowardly silence while vital state assets were steadily compromised.
Stalin demanded that the state government immediately clarify its official position and resist any backdoor takeover by federal authorities. He declared that the DMK would relentlessly fight any attempt to dismantle state sovereignty in education, pledging to mobilize educators, students, and citizens to protect Tamil Nadu's hard-won academic institutions from central centralization.
