DMK working president M.K. Stalin concluded the day's leg of the Cauvery Rights Retrieval march in Thiruthuraipoondi on April 10, 2018, and addressed an energetic public meeting at Kottur. Speaking before an extensive audience of farmers, workers, and party cadres, Stalin detailed what he characterized as a series of unpardonable betrayals by both the central and state governments regarding the Cauvery dispute.
Stalin pointed out that while the Supreme Court's verdict had explicitly ordered the constitution of the Cauvery Management Board within a strict six-week timeline, the BJP-led Union government deliberately approached the court seeking evasive clarifications. He condemned the AIADMK state government for maintaining a subservient posture toward the Centre rather than fearlessly asserting the constitutional rights of seven and a half crore citizens of Tamil Nadu.
The DMK leader asserted that the ruling regime in Chennai had sacrificed the vital interests of delta farmers solely to preserve its precarious legislative majority. Stalin exhorted the farming community and the public to rise above partisan divisions and join a unified democratic struggle to force New Delhi into notifying the statutory management board without further delay.
