DMK working president M.K. Stalin on April 12, 2018, met a large gathering of farmers clad in black shirts at Vallampadugai in Cuddalore district to register collective democratic dissent during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Tamil Nadu. The meeting formed part of the coordinated statewide black flag agitation protesting the Centre's refusal to implement the Supreme Court verdict on the Cauvery river water dispute.
Interacting with the agriculturalists, Stalin witnessed firsthand the profound anger and desperation felt by farming families whose lands faced prolonged desiccation due to water shortages. The farmers voiced their anguish over the central government's delaying tactics in the apex court and condemned the state government for acting as a subservient bystander. Stalin commended the farmers for their steadfast discipline and principled democratic mobilization.
The DMK leader assured the agricultural community that their struggle was central to the Dravidian movement's political mission. He affirmed that the opposition would not rest until water guarantees were established through a statutory management board, pledging continuous legal and street-level resistance against central apathy. He concluded that democratic solidarity among farmers remained the strongest shield against systemic administrative neglect and regional deprivation.
