DMK working president M.K. Stalin addressed a massive public gathering in Cuddalore on April 13, 2018, marking the conclusion of the week-long Cauvery Rights Retrieval march. Stalin expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the tens of thousands of farmers, traders, political cadres, and common citizens who turned out in large numbers to support the rally along its entire route from Mukkombu.
He declared that the remarkable popular reception accorded to the march throughout the delta districts demonstrated the unwavering determination of the people of Tamil Nadu to secure their riparian rights. Stalin criticized both the central and state governments for betraying agricultural communities by delaying the implementation of the Supreme Court's clear judgment. He stated that the prolonged procrastination was an act of political cynicism aimed at appeasing electoral interests elsewhere.
Stalin exhorted all political and social organizations in Tamil Nadu to maintain their rare unity and sustain nonviolent protests until the Cauvery Management Board was formally gazetted and made functional. He affirmed that the DMK would never abandon the hardworking agrarian masses whose sustained labor fed the state across generations. He promised to lead future agitations directly from the front.
