DMK working president M.K. Stalin on April 13, 2018, led a delegation of all-party leaders to Raj Bhavan in Chennai to submit a comprehensive memorandum to Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit. The delegation urged the Governor to convey the unanimous demand of the people of Tamil Nadu to the central government for the immediate constitution of the Cauvery Management Board.
The meeting marked the formal culmination of the extensive Cauvery Rights Retrieval Yatra that traversed key agrarian districts from Mukkombu in Tiruchirappalli to the coastal town of Cuddalore. Stalin emphasized to the Governor that prolonged delays by the Centre in executing the final verdict of the Supreme Court had created unprecedented distress and resentment among delta farmers. He stressed that agriculturalists needed clear water guarantees before the onset of the Kuruvai cultivation season.
Stalin underscored that the Governor, as the constitutional head of the state, had a solemn responsibility to apprise the Union administration of Tamil Nadu's collective public sentiment. He asserted that the opposition parties would persist with their united democratic agitations until an empowered statutory authority was formed.
