DMK working president M.K. Stalin on April 26, 2018, demanded the immediate dismissal of Tamil Nadu Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar and Director General of Police T.K. Rajendran following serious bribery allegations in the Gutkha scam. Stalin insisted that Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami must assume moral responsibility for allowing implicated officials to retain their official posts. He asserted that confidential records and manufacturer diaries seized during tax raids explicitly named both individuals as regular recipients of illicit monthly payouts.
Stalin argued that retaining an accused cabinet minister and the state's highest police officer during an ongoing probe fatally compromised administrative integrity. Subordinate officers could hardly conduct an unfettered investigation while their direct departmental superior remained seated in office. He pointed out that the credibility of governance in Tamil Nadu had suffered severe damage due to this continued inaction.
The DMK leader reiterated that a comprehensive and credible inquiry required the immediate removal of both figures from power. He pledged that the DMK would pursue relentless democratic pressure until ethical norms were restored, criminal culpability was addressed in court, and institutional trust was rebuilt firmly.
