DMK working president M.K. Stalin wrote a formal letter to the Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation on April 26, 2018, urging swift and impartial action in the Gutkha scam probe. Stalin insisted that because senior state politicians and high-ranking police officials were implicated in the bribery network, the federal agency must constitute a Special Investigation Team comprising officers drawn from other states. He stressed that a localized investigative team could face undue administrative interference from influential figures within the Tamil Nadu establishment.
Stalin highlighted that the illicit manufacture and distribution of banned tobacco substances had generated systematic illegal payoffs, as documented in seized records. He noted that public trust in law enforcement hinged entirely on an uncompromised inquiry that spared no guilty party, regardless of rank or political affiliation.
The DMK leader called for time-bound proceedings to prevent evidence tampering and the intimidation of key witnesses. He affirmed that the opposition would maintain vigilant oversight over the case, ensuring that constitutional justice prevailed and that systemic corruption was exposed and punished under federal law. Stalin concluded that public accountability demanded complete institutional transparency throughout the process.
