DMK working president M.K. Stalin condemned the AIADMK government on May 1, 2018, for directing local police to slap false criminal charges against DMK cadres who conducted a peaceful agitation demanding transparent forensic inspection of an illegal gutkha manufacturing plant discovered in Kannampalayam, Coimbatore district. Stalin noted that when courageous party cadres exposed the active operation of an industrial facility producing tons of banned narcotic tobacco products, the administration responded by protecting the guilty entrepreneurs and persecuting democratic whistleblowers.
Stalin pointed out that the seizure of machinery in Coimbatore provided clear proof that the gutkha racket continued unabated with high-level ministerial collusion. Instead of taking swift penal action against the factory owners and complicit public servants, the police registered cases against opposition workers who exercised their democratic right to peaceful assembly. He stated that deploying criminal statutes to intimidate whistleblowers reveals complete desperation within the ruling establishment.
Calling for the immediate withdrawal of all charges against DMK members, Stalin warned that state intimidation will not deter the party from exposing narcotic syndicates. He demanded an uncompromised investigation supervised by the judiciary. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will stand firmly behind its cadres and continue the battle against corruption.
