DMK working president M.K. Stalin urged the Tamil Nadu government on May 4, 2018, to step forward immediately and provide comprehensive logistical and financial support for thousands of medical aspirants arbitrarily allocated distant NEET exam centers in Kerala, Karnataka, and Rajasthan. Stalin stressed that students from rural and economically weaker backgrounds faced immense hardship securing train reservations, arranging accommodation, and financing interstate travel on extremely short notice.
Stalin called upon Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami to deploy state transport buses, establish coordination helpdesks at major railway stations, and organize free lodging and board near examination centers in destination states. He pointed out that while neighboring states like Kerala demonstrated administrative agility by setting up welcoming centers for traveling candidates, the Tamil Nadu government remained passive, leaving impoverished parents to borrow money from local moneylenders at exorbitant interest rates.
The DMK leader emphasized that providing emergency travel aid was the minimum duty of a responsible welfare state. He insisted that no candidate should be disenfranchised from writing the national test due to lack of travel funds. Stalin reiterated that the DMK will provide grassroots assistance through its district units while continuing to oppose the imposition of centralized entrance tests.
