Editorial context

DMK working president M.K. Stalin addressed a large gathering of party workers and citizens in Coimbatore on May 4, 2018, leading a spirited protest against the AIADMK administration's suppression of dissent in the Kannampalayam gutkha factory racket. Stalin criticized local law enforcement for refusing to book influential manufacturers operating an enormous clandestine tobacco processing unit, while simultaneously registering malicious criminal complaints against DMK cadres who exposed the illegal facility through peaceful demonstrations.

Addressing the assembled crowd, Stalin asserted that the Coimbatore police were acting as an obedient protection force for gutkha barons rather than enforcers of public health laws. He detailed how administrative officials allowed the illicit unit to function with high-capacity machinery right under their noses, turning a blind eye to massive consignments of banned products distributed across western Tamil Nadu. Stalin stated that prosecuting whistleblower party members while shielding wealthy lawbreakers epitomizes administrative rot.

Stalin warned the state government that intimidation through false police cases would never silence the DMK's campaign against corruption. He demanded immediate confiscation of the factory premises and the arrest of all corporate sponsors. Stalin reaffirmed that the DMK will continue to protect public health and expose corrupt nexus fearlessly.
