Editorial context

DMK working president M.K. Stalin expressed profound sorrow and outrage on May 6, 2018, following the tragic death of Krishnasamy, a parent from Thiruthuraipoondi who suffered a fatal heart attack in Ernakulam, Kerala, while accompanying his son Kasturi Mahalingam to write the NEET medical entrance test. Stalin condemned the Central Board of Secondary Education and the Union government for callously assigning exam centers in distant states to Tamil Nadu students, inflicting severe physical exhaustion and emotional stress on aspiring youth and poor parents.

Stalin noted that Krishnasamy had sacrificed his life in the desperate struggle to help his son pursue higher education, becoming a tragic victim of an unfeeling, centralized examination regime. He criticized both the Union BJP government and the compliant AIADMK administration for failing to arrange sufficient exam centers within Tamil Nadu or provide emergency travel logistics. The opposition leader emphasized that the tragedy exposed the brutal human cost of imposing standardized entrance systems without adequate planning.

Extending heartfelt condolences and financial support to the bereaved family, Stalin reiterated the DMK's steadfast commitment to securing complete exemption for Tamil Nadu from NEET. He stated that no student or parent should ever pay with their lives for educational aspirations.
