DMK working president M.K. Stalin registered stern condemnation on May 8, 2018, against the AIADMK administration for unleashing nocturnal police crackdowns and arresting state government employees and school teachers affiliated with JACTO-GEO across Tamil Nadu. Stalin characterized the overnight arrests as an oppressive police-state tactic designed to stifle legitimate trade union rights and disrupt the employees' planned democratic agitations.
The joint action council of teachers and government employees had organized phased demonstrations demanding the repeal of the contributory pension scheme, restoration of the defined old pension system, and rectification of Seventh Pay Commission anomalies. Stalin pointed out that instead of inviting employee representatives for constructive talks to resolve justified grievances, the state government deployed coercive police measures to intimidate workers.
Stalin demanded the immediate release of all detained teachers and government staff, along with the withdrawal of police cases filed against them. He asserted that civil servants and educators form the foundational backbone of state administration and deserve dignity rather than nocturnal intimidation. Stalin pledged that the DMK will actively support JACTO-GEO's struggle and ensure their core employment demands are fulfilled when the party assumes power.
