DMK working president M.K. Stalin expressed deep satisfaction on May 11, 2018, after Anna University complied with an interim order of the Madras High Court permitting rural applicants to submit engineering counseling fees through bank demand drafts. The legal relief was achieved through a public interest writ petition filed by the DMK to protect economically disadvantaged and rural students who lacked internet banking and credit card facilities required by the sudden shift to purely digital transactions.

Stalin pointed out that forcing students from remote villages and marginalized families to navigate complex online payment portals without requisite digital infrastructure was discriminatory and exclusionary. He welcomed the university's decision to accept physical demand drafts as a victory for student welfare and educational equity. However, Stalin stressed that allowing demand drafts addressed only part of the problem facing aspiring engineers.

The DMK leader called upon Anna University and the higher education department to take the next necessary step by restoring in-person, single-window counseling sessions. He noted that personal guidance prevents procedural errors during seat allotment. Stalin reaffirmed the party's enduring commitment to eliminating structural barriers in higher education for Tamil Nadu youth.
