DMK working president M.K. Stalin urged the Tamil Nadu government on May 14, 2018, to convene an immediate all-party meeting along with representatives of agricultural associations to deliberate on the draft Cauvery scheme submitted by the Centre to the Supreme Court. Stalin argued that the Union BJP government had placed draft details before the court primarily to evade continuous public condemnation and avoid contempt proceedings, rather than fulfilling regional obligations sincerely.

Stalin noted that the state government must thoroughly analyze the draft scheme to ensure it guarantees the constitution of a fully empowered Cauvery Management Board with regulatory authority over reservoirs, rather than a weakened advisory council. He emphasized that delta farmers and political parties who waged united struggles across the state deserve complete transparency regarding the legal provisions formulated by central authorities.

Calling upon Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami to consult all stakeholders immediately, Stalin stressed that Tamil Nadu's agrarian future cannot be compromised through administrative lethargy. He demanded that the state formulate a unified legal and political response before the apex court resumed hearings. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will continue to mobilize collective efforts until institutional water mechanisms are established.
