I condemn, once again, the unprecedented hike in petrol and diesel prices. The Central Govt, which benefited from the dip in global crude oil prices, has punished the poor and middle classes through out. I call upon the BJP to cap fuel prices immediately.
DMK working president M.K. Stalin registered strong protest on May 20, 2018, against the Union BJP government for authorizing unprecedented, recurring increases in retail petrol and diesel prices. Stalin pointed out that while the central administration had benefited immensely from a prolonged slump in global crude oil prices over the preceding four years, it systematically withheld those windfall savings from ordinary consumers, choosing instead to escalate central excise duties.
Stalin explained that soaring fuel tariffs impose a crushing burden on farmers, small transport operators, middle-class commuters, and small commercial enterprises across Tamil Nadu. The inflated transportation costs inevitably trigger broad inflationary surges in essential food commodities and everyday consumer items. He criticized the central leadership for enriching fiscal revenues through regressive fuel taxation while displaying complete indifference to the economic struggles of common citizens.
Urging the Union government to immediately roll back excessive excise levies and reduce retail fuel prices, Stalin emphasized that fair energy pricing is indispensable for sustainable economic recovery. He warned that continued neglect of public welfare will generate widespread civic discontent. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will persistently press for responsible economic policies that relieve financial distress on working families.
