Why was there not adequate police presence to maintain law and order during #SterliteProtest? Is it accurate to say that there was a total failure of State intelligence which led to these unfortunate deaths? Did IG-Intelligence brief police and @CMOTamilNadu on the situation?
DMK working president M.K. Stalin directed sharp scrutiny toward the state security apparatus on May 23, 2018, questioning why adequate police arrangements were not established to maintain peaceful order during the centennial day of the anti-Sterlite rally in Thoothukudi. Stalin queried whether a complete failure of state intelligence had allowed the situation to deteriorate into catastrophic civilian deaths, and asked whether the Inspector General of Intelligence had properly briefed senior commanders and Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami.
Stalin pointed out that organizers had publicly announced the march weeks in advance, making the administration's lack of preparedness entirely inexcusable. He asked why conventional crowd management mechanisms were discarded in favor of armed personnel positioned on vehicles with assault rifles. The DMK leader argued that administrative lapses and failure to maintain communication channels with community representatives precipitated the tragedy.
Calling for complete transparency regarding intelligence assessments and official briefings, Stalin insisted that executive negligence should not be concealed. He stated that the government must account for every command issued before the shootings. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will persistently press for systemic administrative reforms to protect citizens from executive incompetence.
