DMK working president M.K. Stalin visited the Government Hospital in Thoothukudi on May 23, 2018, meeting with citizens recovering from severe gunshot wounds sustained during the police firing on anti-Sterlite demonstrators. Stalin expressed heartbreaking grief after witnessing patients with bullet-shattered limbs, torso injuries, and head trauma, noting that the physical evidence clearly exposed the horrific and disproportionate nature of the assault launched by state forces.

Speaking with grieving family members at the hospital wards, Stalin offered deep personal condolences and moral support to those who lost relatives in the tragedy. He observed that ordinary workers, women, and young students who had assembled for environmental justice were subjected to cruel battlefield weaponry. The DMK leader emphasized that the harrowing sights in the medical wards will remain an indelible stain on the conscience of the state government.

Stalin demanded that the health department provide the highest standard of specialized medical care, life-saving surgeries, and comprehensive rehabilitation for all injured victims without charge. He insisted that the state administration bear full financial responsibility for their long-term medical needs. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will stand beside every victim throughout their recovery.
