DMK working president M.K. Stalin led a massive demonstration laying siege to the Tamil Nadu Secretariat at Fort St. George on May 24, 2018, declaring that brute police oppression cannot crush the deeply felt sentiments of the people. Stalin stated that the protest directly targeted the administrative seat of power to hold the cruel AIADMK government accountable for the police firing in Thoothukudi that claimed thirteen innocent lives.
Braving heavy police barricades, Stalin and opposition leaders confronted the administration for its failure to prevent violence and engage with peaceful anti-Sterlite agitators over their hundred-day campaign. He pointed out that the Chief Minister had secluded himself inside administrative offices while citizens faced bloodshed on public roads. Stalin asserted that laying siege to the secretariat was necessary to awaken an insensitive government that remains deaf to public suffering.
The DMK leader emphasized that popular movements cannot be broken by tear gas or bullets, warning that state repression will only steel public resolve. He demanded the immediate resignation of the ministry and the permanent decommissioning of the copper smelter. Stalin affirmed that the party will continue direct action until justice prevails.
