This move by BJP Govt to use social media analytical tools to monitor emails, Facebook, Twitter activity raises serious issues of illegal surveillance & marks the beginning of a totalitarian regime. Govt must stop all such unconstitutional endeavours. https://t.co/NkA0v1ALpE

Editorial context

DMK working president M.K. Stalin raised urgent alarms on May 25, 2018, over moves by the Union BJP government to deploy advanced social media analytical tools for tracking private emails, Facebook profiles, and Twitter accounts. Stalin warned that state-sponsored digital snooping marks the dangerous onset of an authoritarian regime determined to suppress dissent and control civic discourse. He called upon the Centre to immediately halt all unconstitutional surveillance initiatives.

The Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had floated tenders to establish a social media communication hub capable of real-time monitoring of citizens' online opinions. Stalin argued that mass surveillance strikes at the very root of individual liberty, freedom of expression, and fundamental privacy rights enshrined in the Constitution. Such invasive measures resemble Orwellian police states designed to stifle democratic criticism.

Stalin urged political parties, civil society organizations, and digital rights advocates across India to unite against state intrusion into private communication. He insisted that governance must rest on transparency and public trust rather than secretive electronic espionage. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will resist every executive maneuver that undermines constitutional safeguards and democratic freedoms.

This is an initiative of unofficial DMK and Dravidian Ideology supporter, a fan of Thanthai Periyar, Perarignar Anna and Kalaignar — not affiliated with any official DMK party or persons.
