M. Karunanidhi, five-time Chief Minister and DMK president for nearly five decades, died on 7 August 2018 in Chennai at the age of 94. He was buried beside his mentor C. N. Annadurai on the Marina Beach with full state honours, as lakhs of mourners gathered. Tamil Nadu observed a seven-day mourning period.
ஐந்து முறை முதலமைச்சராகவும் கிட்டத்தட்ட ஐந்து தசாப்தங்கள் திமுக தலைவராகவும் இருந்த மு. கருணாநிதி 7 ஆகஸ்ட் 2018 அன்று சென்னையில் தனது 94வது வயதில் காலமானார். தனது வழிகாட்டி சி. என். அண்ணாதுரைக்கு அருகில் மெரினா கடற்கரையில் முழு அரசு மரியாதையுடன் அவர் அடக்கம் செய்யப்பட்டார்; லட்சக்கணக்கான மக்கள் திரண்டனர். தமிழ்நாடு ஏழு நாள் இரங்கலைக் கடைப்பிடித்தது.
Significance
Karunanidhi's death closed an era of Dravidian politics he had shaped since the 1950s and triggered the final, decisive leadership transition to M. K. Stalin.
1950களிலிருந்து அவர் வடிவமைத்த திராவிட அரசியலின் ஒரு சகாப்தத்தை கருணாநிதியின் மறைவு முடிவுக்குக் கொண்டுவந்தது; மு. க. ஸ்டாலினுக்கான இறுதி, தீர்க்கமான தலைமை மாற்றத்தைத் தூண்டியது.
