On 30 January 1991 Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar dismissed the elected DMK government using Article 356, citing deterioration of law and order, and President's Rule was imposed on Tamil Nadu from 31 January. The dismissal followed pressure from the Congress and the AIADMK.
1991 ஜனவரி 30 அன்று பிரதமர் சந்திரசேகர், சட்டம் ஒழுங்கு சீர்குலைந்ததைக் காரணம் காட்டி, பிரிவு 356-ஐ பயன்படுத்தித் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்ட திமுக அரசைக் கலைத்தார்; ஜனவரி 31 முதல் தமிழ்நாட்டில் குடியரசுத் தலைவர் ஆட்சி அமல்படுத்தப்பட்டது. காங்கிரஸ் மற்றும் அதிமுகவின் அழுத்தத்தைத் தொடர்ந்து இந்தக் கலைப்பு நடந்தது.
