In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, the DMK-led alliance won 38 of the 39 parliamentary seats in Tamil Nadu in a landslide. The DMK itself won 23 seats, its strongest national showing in years and the first major electoral test won under M. K. Stalin's presidency.

Significance
The sweep restored the DMK as Tamil Nadu's dominant force after a decade out of power and validated Stalin's leadership ahead of the 2021 Assembly election.
