Jain Commission Indictment and Fall of the Gujral Government

The interim report of the Jain Commission investigating Rajiv Gandhi's assassination accused the DMK of having abetted the LTTE. The Congress demanded the DMK's removal from the I. K. Gujral-led United Front government; when this was refused the Congress withdrew support, bringing down the government and triggering the 1998 general election.
