In May 1986, M. Karunanidhi convened a large national conference of the Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisation at Madurai to press the demand for Tamil self-determination in Sri Lanka. The conclave drew leaders from across the country in support of the Eelam Tamil cause.
1986 மே மாதம், இலங்கையில் தமிழர் சுயநிர்ணய உரிமைக் கோரிக்கையை வலியுறுத்த, மு. கருணாநிதி தமிழீழ ஆதரவாளர் அமைப்பின் பெரிய தேசிய மாநாட்டை மதுரையில் கூட்டினார். ஈழத் தமிழர் நோக்கத்திற்கு ஆதரவாக நாடு முழுவதிலுமிருந்து தலைவர்களை இந்த மாநாடு ஈர்த்தது.
Significance
The Madurai conference was the DMK leadership's most visible opposition-era mobilisation on the Sri Lankan Tamil question, drawing national attention to the cause.
இலங்கைத் தமிழர் பிரச்சினையில் திமுக தலைமையின் எதிர்க்கட்சி காலகட்டத்தின் மிகவும் வெளிப்படையான மக்கள் திரட்சியாக மதுரை மாநாடு அமைந்தது; இந்த நோக்கத்திற்கு தேசிய கவனத்தை ஈர்த்தது.
