In the March 1971 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election the DMK under M. Karunanidhi won a landslide of 184 of the 234 seats. Under an alliance arrangement, the DMK contested all assembly seats while conceding Lok Sabha seats to Indira Gandhi's Congress.
1971 மார்ச்சில் நடந்த தமிழ்நாடு சட்டமன்றத் தேர்தலில், மு. கருணாநிதி தலைமையிலான திமுக 234 இடங்களில் 184 இடங்களை வென்று மாபெரும் வெற்றி பெற்றது. ஒரு கூட்டணி ஏற்பாட்டின்படி, திமுக அனைத்துச் சட்டமன்ற இடங்களிலும் போட்டியிட்டு, மக்களவை இடங்களை இந்திரா காந்தியின் காங்கிரஸுக்கு விட்டுக்கொடுத்தது.
Significance
The 1971 result was the DMK's first electoral victory under Karunanidhi and confirmed his hold on power in his own right.
