Historical Record
In 1969 the DMK government set up a committee headed by former Madras High Court Chief Justice P. V. Rajamannar to examine Centre-State relations and recommend ways to strengthen state autonomy. It was among the first state-appointed inquiries into Indian federalism.
Significance
The committee placed state autonomy at the centre of the DMK's political agenda and made Tamil Nadu a pioneer in the federalism debate.
