Chief Minister Kalaignar Insurance Scheme for Life Saving Treatments

Executive Summary

Launched on 23 July 2009, this scheme provided free health insurance to poor and low-income families so they could obtain costly treatment for serious ailments at empanelled government and private hospitals. The cover was Rs 1 lakh per family per year over four years, with the state paying the premium and an allocation of about Rs 517.30 crore. It was the forerunner of the later Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme.
