On 28 September 2024, in a cabinet reshuffle, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin elevated his son Udhayanidhi Stalin to Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Udhayanidhi became the third person and the youngest to hold the post, retaining the Youth Welfare and Sports portfolio while taking on Planning and Development.
