Kalaignarin Varumun Kappom Scheme

Executive Summary

Launched on 30 December 2006, the Varumun Kappom ("prevent before it strikes") scheme organised preventive medical camps across Tamil Nadu districts, offering free screening and treatment by specialists from multiple departments. It targeted rural areas, slums and underprivileged communities to bridge the urban-rural healthcare gap. The scheme lapsed after the change of government in 2011 and was relaunched by the DMK in 2021.
