Varumun Kappom Scheme

Executive Summary

Varumun Kappom, meaning 'we will protect before it happens', was a preventive healthcare scheme introduced by the DMK government in November 1999. Its objective was to reverse the usual model so that the government reaches people to provide healthcare, through medical camps covering a wide range of issues from eye problems and tuberculosis to heart ailments and maternity care. The scheme was later revived by a subsequent DMK government in 2021.

'வருவதற்கு முன்பே காப்போம்' என்று பொருள்படும் வருமுன் காப்போம், 1999 நவம்பரில் திமுக அரசால் அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்பட்ட முன்னெச்சரிக்கை சுகாதாரத் திட்டமாகும். மக்கள் அரசை நாடிச் செல்வதற்குப் பதிலாக அரசே மக்களை நாடிச் சென்று சுகாதார சேவை வழங்க வேண்டும் என்பதை நோக்கமாகக் கொண்டு, கண் பிரச்சினைகள், காசநோய் முதல் இதய நோய்கள் மற்றும் மகப்பேறு பராமரிப்பு வரை பல்வேறு பிரச்சினைகளை உள்ளடக்கிய மருத்துவ முகாம்கள் நடத்தப்பட்டன. இத்திட்டம் பின்னர் 2021இல் ஒரு திமுக அரசால் மீண்டும் தொடங்கப்பட்டது.
